The Australian-born singer Sia, known for crooning haunting tracks like “Breathe Me” and “Six Feet Under,” has released a new single today titled “Chandelier” that is bound to leave a lasting impression on anyone who happens upon it. Only a week after having hinted its St. Patrick’s release on Twitter to her 411,000 followers, the vivacious songstress has brought both fans and newly founded listeners a song that chronicles an uncensored rawness surrounding wild party nights that lead to the bright and soberly melodic mornings after. With a powerful chorus and billowing vocals to match, it is hard to imagine this track being on anything less than repeat on anyone’s playlist.
Sia entered the music scene in 2002, and quickly earned prolific attention for creating some undoubtedly catchy pop-anthems. In the past, the blonde with the chin-length bob cut, who, according to an 2013 interview in Billboard Magazine, didn’t desire fame, collaborated with some of the biggest artists in the business (including Celine Dion, Britney Spears and Beyoncé), penning several legendary hits, inclusive of “Double Rainbow” for Katy Perry, and also participating as a vocalist in “Beautiful Pain” with Eminem, with “Elastic Heart” from The Hunger Games Soundtrack being her more recent accomplishment. In fact, the currently new spine-tingling track from this critically-acclaimed singer/songwriter might be seen as comparable to Rihanna’s power-ballads — at first listen, you might even mistake it for one of her songs, but this shouldn’t come as a surprise, given her past work with the singer: “I usually think, ‘Oh this would work for Rihanna, or this would be a good one for B or Katy,'” Sia said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest during his “On Air” show. “But this time I was like, ‘Uh oh I think I just wrote a full-blown pop song for myself by accident!'”
Moving away from the Imogen Heap-style, bleary-eyed soprano, the hit maker sings that the “Sun is up, I’m a mess/ gotta get out now, gotta run from this/…one, two, three…drink/ Throw ‘em back, till I lose count” against an infectious beat. Through militant drums and powerful lyricism, she has shifted her stance from behind the scenes to front-and-center and, in the process, plucked this refreshingly honest party-sensation for herself.
Sia’s single “Chandelier,” from her forthcoming album due out in stores this summer, is currently available for purchase via iTunes, Amazon and all other digital providers. For more information about the singer, please visit http://siamusic.net/.
